TYC Book Club Selections for the 2013 Reading Season

Book #1     In the Garden of Beasts by Erik Larson

                    March 5th, 2013 Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m.

In the Garden of Beasts

This nonfiction book is set in Berlin as Adolph Hitler is coming to power. It follows the life of the American ambassador, William Dodd, who becomes increasingly aware of the changes that are coming to Germany. The story begins in 1933. It takes us back to a time in history when the world did not understand the grave threat posed by Hitler. It is a gripping story that reads like fiction even though everything in it is historically accurate.

Book #2           The Shoemaker's Wife by Adriana Trigiani

Sunday, May 19th at 12:00 in TYC Clubhouse

If you want to learn how to craft a happy life, skip the self-help books and study the characters in The Shoemaker's Wife.  Here, as she does in much of her writing, Adriana Trigiani focuses on love, friendship and family, the kind you're born into and the kind you create when your own family isn't available.... As we learn from her story, we're responsible for our creating our own happiness.... Trigiani gives us a road map to a happy life. You'll have trouble putting this novel down.

Book #3              The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield

June 9th at 12:00 p.m. at TYC Clubhouse

Front Cover

Contending with ghosts and with a (mostly) scary bunch of living people, Setterfield's sensible heroine is, like Jane Eyre, full of repressed feeling-and is unprepared for both heartache and romance. And like Jane, she's a real reader and makes a terrific narrator. That's where the comparisons end, but Setterfield, who lives in Yorkshire, offers graceful storytelling that has its own pleasures.
